What is pantoprazole?

Pantoprazole belongs to a drug class called proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). PPIs are known for their stomach acid-suppressing effects that lead to long-lasting inhibition of gastric acid secretion. Pantoprazole helps relieve heartburn symptoms, difficulty swallowing, and persistent cough by decreasing the amount of acid in the stomach.  Pantoprazole is also used to treat and prevent stomach and intestinal ulcers.
