How To Use Pregabalin (Lyrica)

Pregabalin capsules, oral solution, and extended-release tablets are taken by mouth. The capsules and oral solution are taken 2-3 times a day with or without food. The extended-release tablet (Lyrica CR) is taken once a day after the evening meal.

You should take your pregabalin at around the same time every day. Do not crush, chew, or cut the extended-release tablet.

Read the prescription label carefully and take pregabalin exactly as instructed by your doctor. This medicine can be habit-forming. Do not take a higher or lower dose or take it more or less frequently. Your doctor will likely start you on a low dose of pregabalin and increase the dose during the first week of treatment.

Pregabalin may help to control your condition but will not cure it. Continue taking the medicine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking pregabalin without talking to your healthcare provider first. Stopping pregabalin suddenly can result in withdrawal symptoms like new or worsening seizures, problems with sleep, nausea, diarrhea, and headache.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of pregabalin, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store pregabalin at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired pregabalin should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw pregabalin in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded pregabalin is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program.
