Promethazine Drug Class
Promethazine (proh meh thuh zeen) is a prescription medication that belongs to a group of drugs called phenothiazines. It is used to treat nausea and vomiting as well as allergies and allergic reactions.
Promethazine Age Range
Promethazine should not be given to children younger than 2 years of age. This medication should be used with caution in children over the age of 2 years as well. Combination products that contain codeine along with promethazine should not be given to children younger than 16 years of age. Promethazine can cause severe breathing problems (slowing or stopping of breathing) and even death in children younger than 2 years of age.
