How To Use Pseudoephedrine

Pseudoephedrine regular tablets and liquid are taken by mouth every 4-6 hours. The extended-release tablets are taken once or twice a day.

Read the package label carefully and use only as directed. Do not take a higher dose or more frequent doses than recommended in the patient information leaflet. Make sure you give the correct dose to a child.

Pseudoephedrine can cause problems with sleeping. To avoid these side effects, take the last dose several hours before bedtime.

Use a dose-measuring cup or syringe to measure the dose of liquid medicine accurately. Swallow the extended-release tablets whole - do not cut, crush, or chew them.

Call your doctor if you have fever or your stuffy nose and sinus congestion symptoms do not improve after 7 days of taking pseudoephedrine.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of pseudoephedrine, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take extra medicine or a double dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store pseudoephedrine at room temperature (storage temperature ranges between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in the original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused pseudoephedrine should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw pseudoephedrine in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to properly discard expired or unneeded pseudoephedrine is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company. Learn more about proper medication disposal
