Sumatriptan Succinate (Imitrex) Side Effects

Possible side effects of sumatriptan are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects if they are severe or if they do not go away in a few days.

  • Feeling flushed
  • Warm or cold sensations
  • Tingling sensations
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Tiredness
  • Weakness
  • Gastrointestinal symptoms (upset stomach, nausea, diarrhea)
  • Muscle cramps
  • Injection site reactions

Some of the adverse reactions of sumatriptan are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical attention if you experience:

  • Jaw, throat, neck, or chest pain, tightness, pressure, or heaviness
  • Shortness of breath
  • Difficulty breathing or swallowing
  • Fast or irregular heartbeat
  • Fainting
  • Cold sweats
  • Weakness
  • Numbness
  • Severe stomach pain
  • Vomiting
  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Sudden decreased body weight
  • Pale skin
  • Bluish tinge to the fingers or toes
  • Vision changes
  • Skin rash, hives
  • Itching, redness, or swelling of the eyes, face, lips, or throat
  • Seizures
