Therapeutic Uses:

  • To lower the risk of blood clots in people with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation (an irregular heartbeat that is not caused by heart valve disease).
  • To prevent and treat blood clots, including deep vein thrombosis (DVT) (a blood clot in the leg) and pulmonary embolism (PE) (a blood clot in the lung).
  • To prevent DVT and PE in people having hip and knee replacement surgery or people who are hospitalized for serious medical conditions.
  • To lower the risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiovascular death in people with coronary artery disease or peripheral artery disease.
