Aripiprazole Drug Class
Aripiprazole (ay-rih-pih-pruh-zole) belongs to a group called atypical antipsychotic medications (second-generation antipsychotics).
Aripiprazole Age Range
Aripiprazole is FDA-approved for schizophrenia in adults and children 13 years of age and older. It is also approved to treat episodes of mania or mixed episodes associated with bipolar disorder in people 10 years of age and older. Aripiprazole can be prescribed to children between the ages of 6 and 17 years to control behaviors such as aggression and mood changes associated with autistic disorder. This medication is also used to treat Tourette’s disorder in children between 6 and 18 years of age.
