What may interact with Benznidazole?

Do not take this medicine with any of the following medications:

-alcohol or any product that contains alcohol
-disulfiram

What should I tell my health care provider before I take Benznidazole?

They need to know if you have any of these conditions:

-if you drink alcohol
-low blood counts, like low white cell, platelet, or red cell counts
-tingling of the fingers or toes, or other nerve disorder
-an unusual or allergic reaction to benznidazole, or other medicines, foods, dyes, or preservatives
-pregnant or trying to get pregnant
-breast-feeding

What should I watch for while using Benznidazole?

Tell your doctor or healthcare provider if your symptoms do not start to get better or if they get worse.

This medicine may cause serious skin reactions. They can happen weeks to months after starting the medicine. Contact your healthcare provider right away if you notice fevers or flu-like symptoms with a rash. The rash may be red or purple and then turn into blisters or peeling of the skin. Or, you might notice a red rash with swelling of the face, lips or lymph nodes in your neck or under your arms.

Avoid alcoholic drinks and products containing alcohol while you are taking this medicine and for at least 3 days afterward. Alcohol may make you feel dizzy, sick, or flushed.

Do not become pregnant while taking this medicine. Women should inform their doctor if they wish to become pregnant or think they might be pregnant. If you are a female who can become pregnant, you should use effective birth control during treatment and for at least 5 days after treatment. There is a potential for serious side effects to an unborn child. Talk to your healthcare provider or pharmacist for more information.

Where should I keep my medicine?

Keep out of the reach of children.

Store between 20 and 25 degrees C (68 and 77 degrees F). Keep container tightly closed and protect from moisture. Throw away any unused medicine after the expiration date.
