Bisacodyl Pros and Cons

Bisacodyl is available over the counter without a prescription.
It can be used in children.
Bisacodyl tablets produce a bowel movement within 6-12 hours and the rectal suppository works within an hour.

Bisacodyl can cause stomach pain, cramps, and a sensation of needing to go right away.
You can’t take it with antacids, proton pump inhibitors, or dairy products.
Bisacodyl is not a good option during pregnancy.
