For BuzzRx, one of the most meaningful accomplishments in 2020 was reaching our goal to donate $500,000 to help grant 50 life-changing wishes through our nonprofit partner Make-A-Wish®.
For many wish families, the COVID-19 pandemic has been especially stressful due to wish kids being more isolated and vulnerable due to their illness. Make-A-Wish has continued to be a source of hope, strength, and joy for wish kids even as the organization has had to get creative and take extra safety precautions while continuing to grant wishes throughout this past year.
With theme parks closed, travel halted, and many corporate sponsors putting their programs on pause due to COVID-19, Make-A-Wish has had to find creative ways to deliver hope and joy to wish kids, with a focus on every child’s safety first. Despite the obstacles of the past year, Make-A-Wish granted more than 8,800 life-changing wishes. Some of these wishes involved virtual shopping sprees with car parades, new fluffy puppies, room make-overs, and new gaming systems.
A wish gives children renewed energy and strength, brings families closer together, and unites communities. For Gracie, a 4-year-old battling leukemia, heart disease, and a genetic disorder, a wish for a backyard playset has “made her feel free.” Despite her many obstacles, she never stops smiling. Her mom Kimberley describes her as “the happiest girl alive.”
“Our daughter has innate strength in her that can only be described as super-human. She has had to fight hard since the day she was born and she has never, not for a single day, let it stop her from living her life and enjoying all the things she loves. There are no words in any language anywhere on this planet that describe how grateful our family is,” reflected Kimberley.
Gracie's life is one of many that has been positively impacted by Make-A-Wish, and never before has hope and joy been more essential. Shane Power, Chief Revenue & Impact Officer at BuzzRx, speaks for everyone at the company when he says, “There is something fundamentally good about an organization that inspires kids to fight back by giving them hope. I am proud of what our team has been able to accomplish in support of Make-A-Wish, however with thousands of wishes waiting and unfunded, our work is not finished. It’s the generous support of caring organizations, individuals, and communities coming together that can help change the lives of wish kids.”
BuzzRx donates to Make-A-Wish on every prescription discounted using the special program cards benefiting the nonprofit organization. Donations stay in the communities in which they are raised to grant wishes locally. To-date, BuzzRx has donated $5 million to help grant 500 wishes since the national program launched in November 2014. BuzzRx’s 500th wish celebration will take place in Arizona this February.
