Budesonide Side Effects

Possible side effects of budesonide are listed below. Call your doctor if these adverse effects are severe or still present after a few days.

  • Headache.
  • Nausea.
  • Dizziness.
  • Sneezing, coughing, runny nose.
  • Back pain.
  • Abdominal pain.
  • Indigestion or upset stomach.
  • Gas.
  • Vomiting.
  • Dry, itchy skin.
  • Fatigue.
  • Muscle cramps.

Rarely, budesonide can cause serious adverse events. Stop taking budesonide and call your doctor right away or seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

  • Skin rash, hives, itching and other signs of allergic reactions.
  • Swelling of the face and neck.
  • Difficulty breathing.
  • Fever.
  • Severe headache.
  • Vision changes.
  • Acne.
  • Bruising.
  • Pink or purple striae (stretch marks) on the breasts, stomach, arms, or thighs.
  • Swelling of the arms and legs.
  • Hump between the shoulders.

The above list may not include all the possible side effects of budesonide. Tell your health care professional if the side effects are unusual or severe or they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Budesonide Overdose: In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Contact your doctor or call the national poison control center on 1-800-222-1222. If a person has trouble breathing, cannot be awakened, or has had a seizure, call 911.
