Bystolic Pros and Cons

  • You only need to take one tablet of Bystolic (nebivolol) by mouth once daily.
  • You can take this medicine with or without food.
  • Bystolic works well to treat hypertension and bring your blood pressure lower.
  • It is specific for the heart and is less likely to cause side effects compared to other beta-blockers that also act on other organs in the body.

  • You cannot skip Bystolic doses as it can lead to high blood pressure and an increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
  • Stopping Bystolic (nebivolol) suddenly can increase your risk of severe chest pain, heart attack, and irregular heartbeat. 
  • This medication may be harmful to an unborn baby, and you cannot take this medicine while pregnant. It is unknown whether Bystolic passes into breast milk, and you cannot take this medicine if you’re breastfeeding.
  • Bystolic can mask symptoms of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) in people with diabetes.
