How To Use Carvedilol

Take carvedilol exactly as directed by your doctor or pharmacist. The immediate-release form of this medicine is to be taken twice a day by mouth with food.

Carvedilol extended-release capsules are taken once a day by mouth with food. Do not crush or chew the capsules. If you find it difficult to swallow the capsules, you can open a capsule and sprinkle the medicine over a spoonful of applesauce for immediate consumption (do not store the contents of an opened capsule for later use).

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct carvedilol dosage and frequency. Take your medicine regularly at around the same time every day. Do not take a higher or lower dose than prescribed, and do not take the medication more or less frequently than prescribed.

Carvedilol will help control your congestive heart failure or high blood pressure but will not cure it. Continue taking the medicine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking carvedilol without talking to your healthcare professional. Suddenly stopping carvedilol can lead to complications like chest pain, irregular heartbeat, and heart attack. If you are going to come off carvedilol, your doctor will gradually reduce the dose.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of carvedilol, take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regular time. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store carvedilol at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused carvedilol. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
