How To Use Cefdinir

Cefdinir is available as an oral capsule or liquid to take by mouth. You can take this medicine with or without food. It is usually taken 1-2 times a day for 5-10 days.

Read the prescription label carefully and take cefdinir exactly as instructed by your doctor. Do not take a higher or lower dose of this medicine or take it more or less frequently than prescribed.

Try to take cefdinir at around the same time every day. If you are taking the oral suspension, store the liquid medicine in the fridge. Shake the bottle well before use. Use a medicine dose measuring device such as the dosing syringe provided, and not a kitchen spoon, to measure the correct dose of liquid medicine.

You should start to feel better after taking cefdinir for a few days. Tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve or get worse after starting antibiotic treatment. Finish the full course of cefdinir even if you feel well. Skipping doses or stopping an antibiotic too soon can lead to incomplete treatment of a bacterial infection. This can cause the infection to come back and become harder to treat

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of cefdinir, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take two doses together to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store cefdinir capsules at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Store the liquid medicine in the refrigerator. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: You should discard any unused cefdinir suspension after 10 days. Unused or expired cefdinir should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw cefdinir in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded cefdinir is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program.
