Cefdinir Tips from Pharmacists

  • Cefdinir can turn your stools reddish in color, especially if you are taking supplemental iron. This is normal.

  • Do not stop taking cefdinir until your doctor tells you. Skipping doses or stopping antibiotic medicines too soon can result in incomplete treatment of infections. This may lead to future infections that are harder to treat.

  • If you are taking cefdinir suspension, store it in the fridge. Shake the bottle well before use. Use a medicine dose measuring device such as the dosing syringe provided, and not a kitchen spoon, to measure the correct dose. Discard any unused liquid medicine after 10 days.

  • Cefdinir suspension has sugar in it and can raise your blood sugar levels. Talk to your doctor if you have diabetes.

  • Take cefdinir at least 2 hours away from antacids and supplements containing iron.

  • You can take anti diarrhea medicine for mild diarrhea while on cefdinir. However, if your diarrhea is severe with watery or bloody stools, this could be an intestinal disease called C. diff diarrhea. Contact your doctor for medical advice immediately or seek emergency medical attention if this occurs.
