Ciprofloxacin (Cipro) tips from pharmacists

  • You might start to feel better after a few days of taking ciprofloxacin suspension or tablets. Be sure to finish your prescription even if you don’t have symptoms anymore. Skipping doses or not finishing your prescription of ciprofloxacin can lead to incomplete treatment of the infection and make it come back and be harder to treat.

  • If you experience stomach upset, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or stomach pain with ciprofloxacin, taking the medicine with food might help.

  • Drink plenty of water while on ciprofloxacin. This is necessary to protect your kidneys.

  • Probiotic supplements can help prevent or lessen the severity of diarrhea from ciprofloxacin. Take the probiotic at least one hour away from ciprofloxacin.

  • Store ciprofloxacin suspension at room temperature or in the refrigerator. Discard any unused oral suspension after 14 days.
