Clindamycin blocks bacterial protein synthesis and prevents bacteria from growing.

Clindamycin Phosphate (Cleocin Phosphate) Doses

Cleocin phosphate sterile solution contains 150 mg clindamycin phosphate equivalent per mL of solution. Clindamycin in 0.9% sodium chloride injection is also available for intravenous use. Your healthcare provider will choose the appropriate dosing regimen based on your age and type of infection.

The usual dosing regimens are between 600 mg and 1200 mg per day given in 2-4 divided doses. Doses of 1200 mg to 2700 mg per day can be used for more serious infections. Doses as high as 4800 mg daily have been given intravenously to adults with life-threatening infections.

Note: Clindamycin is available for oral or intravenous administration. The choice between oral or intravenous clindamycin depends on the severity of the infection. Other salts, such as clindamycin hydrochloride for oral or subcutaneous dose and clindamycin palmitate hydrochloride for oral solution are also available.
