How To Use Cyclobenzaprine

Cyclobenzaprine comes in the form of a tablet or capsule to be taken by mouth with water. The short-acting tablet is usually taken three times a day, with or without food. The extended-release capsule is usually taken with or without food once a day. This medication is to be used for short periods of 2-3 weeks. Do not take cyclobenzaprine for more than 3 weeks without talking to your doctor first.

Follow the directions on your prescription label carefully. Do not take more or less cyclobenzaprine or take it more or less frequently than prescribed.

Do not crush or chew the extended-release cyclobenzaprine capsule. Swallow it whole with a glass of water. If you find it hard to swallow capsules, you can empty the contents of the cyclobenzaprine capsule into some applesauce. Consume the mixture immediately; do not store it for later use. Drink some water and swish and swallow after you swallow the mixture to ensure you swallow all the medicine.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of cyclobenzaprine, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take your next dose at the regularly scheduled time. Do not take two doses of cyclobenzaprine to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store cyclobenzaprine at room temperature (between 15-30 C° or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Keep all medications out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Throw away any expired or unused cyclobenzaprine. Do not flush the medicine down the toilet. The best way to dispose of medicines is through your local waste disposal company or a medication take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
