  • Dexamethasone can effectively treat a wide range of conditions in many parts of the body.
  • This steroid medicine can provide quick relief from symptoms of inflammation by suppressing the immune response.
  • In addition to a dexamethasone tablet, there is also a dexamethasone solution for people who have trouble swallowing pills. The injectable suspension can be used in hospitalized patients.
  • There is a lower-cost generic available.

  • You may have to take dexamethasone multiple times a day.
  • Long-term use of dexamethasone or higher doses can cause serious problems with the heart, kidneys, stomach, eyes, and bones.
  • Stopping dexamethasone suddenly after taking it for a long time can lead to withdrawal symptoms.
  • Long-term use of steroids during pregnancy can cause adrenal suppression in the baby. However, short-term use of antenatal dexamethasone in women who require respiratory support does not appear to pose a risk to the baby.
