Diethylpropion HCl Uses

Diethylpropion is used for the short-term (a few weeks) to help with weight reduction. It is prescribed in conjunction with an appropriate weight reducing regimen consisting of a reduced-calorie diet and physical activity. This medication is recommended for adult obese subjects with an initial body mass index (BMI) of 30 kg/m2 or higher (classified as exogenous obesity) who have not responded to diet and exercise alone.

Diethylpropion HCl Mechanism of Action

Diethylpropion works by decreasing appetite. This drug crosses the blood brain barrier and may also have central nervous system actions and metabolic effects.

Diethylpropion HCl Doses

Diethylpropion is available in 25 mg immediate-release (regular) tablets and 75 mg extended-release tablets. The recommended dose is one tablet three times a day, taken 1 hour before meals (immediate-release tablets), and one tablet once a day taken at midday (extended-release tablets).
