What is doxycycline?

Doxycycline hyclate is a tetracycline antibiotic used to treat bacterial infections inside the body. Doxycycline can treat infections of the eyes, gums (periodontitis), intestines, urinary tract, respiratory tract, and sexually-transmitted infections like gonorrhea, chlamydia, and syphilis.

Doxycycline is used to treat bacteria-caused acne. It can also treat blemishes, bumps, and acne-like lesions caused by rosacea.

This antibiotic also plays a significant role in anthrax treatment, malaria prevention, and other infections caused by ticks, mites, or lice.

However, these aren’t the only limits of doxycycline hyclate. There may be other uses—your pharmacist or physician can give you further information and assistance.

Who can take doxycycline?

  • Adults
  • Children who are 8 and older
