What are Flagyl side effects?

Common side effects of Flagyl (metronidazole) include:

  • Gastrointestinal symptoms like nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, diarrhea, constipation, stomach pain, loss of appetite
  • Unpleasant metallic taste
  • Dry mouth
  • Tongue irritation or furry tongue
  • Headache

Tell your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not get better over time. Some side effects of Flagyl (metronidazole) can be more serious. Call your doctor immediately if you experience the following symptoms:

  • Pain, numbness, tingling, or burning sensation in the hands or feet
  • Rash, itching, hives, peeling or blistering of the skin
  • Seizures
  • Fever, stuffy nose, sore throat, or other signs of infection
  • Flushing
  • Dizziness
  • Joint pain
  • Problems with speaking or coordination
  • Agitation or confusion

Flagyl Overdose: In case of a known or suspected overdose of Flagyl, call your doctor or the local poison control center or go to the nearest ER and get emergency medical help. Overdose symptoms can include nausea, vomiting, loss of coordination, seizures, and numbness, tingling, burning, or pain in the hands or feet.
