Fluconazole Tips from Pharmacists

  • You can take fluconazole with or without food. However, if you experience side effects like nausea and vomiting, it might help to take the medicine with food.

  • If you are taking fluconazole for vaginal candidiasis, avoid having sex until the infection has cleared completely. Having sex during active vaginal infections can be painful and may worsen symptoms like itching and burning.

  • You should start to feel better within 24 hours of taking the first dose of fluconazole for fungal infections of the vagina. Call your doctor if your symptoms are not any better after 3 days of a single dose of fluconazole. You may need to take another dose.

  • Finish all the fluconazole prescribed by your healthcare provider even if you’re feeling better. Stopping fluconazole too soon can cause the infection to come back.
