What is Fluticasone Propionate used for?

Fluticasone propionate (Flonase generic) belongs to a group of drugs called corticosteroids. It relieves allergic rhinitis symptoms such as sneezing, itchy or runny nose, nasal congestion, and itchy or watery eyes. Prescription fluticasone nasal spray is used to treat symptoms of rhinitis not caused by allergies. Xhance (another brand name for prescription fluticasone nasal) is used to treat nasal polyps.

Fluticasone Propionate Mechanism of Action

Fluticasone propionate is a steroid medicine. It reduces signs and symptoms of inflammation in the nose by blocking certain natural substances in the body that cause allergy symptoms.

What is the dosage of Fluticasone Propionate?

Fluticasone propionate is available as a 16-gram nasal spray that releases 50 mcg of medication per spray. The usual dose in adults is 2 sprays per nostril once daily (for a total daily dose of 200 mcg). In adolescents and children over the age of 4 years, the dose of Flonase Allergy Relief is 1 spray per nostril once daily (for a total daily dose of 100 mcg).
