How To Use Follistim AQ

Read the patient information leaflet carefully and take Follistim AQ exactly as directed. Your doctor will develop an individualized treatment plan for you based on response. Do not change the dose, dosage frequency, or treatment duration without your doctor’s approval. 

Follistim AQ comes in a single-patient, ready-to-use pen. Inspect the injection solution and ensure it is clear and colorless. Discard it if it is discolored or has visible particles. Do not add other medicines to the Follistim AQ cartridge. 

Note: The Follistim AQ Cartridge and pen injector device delivers more follitropin beta compared to reconstituted Follistim that is administered using a conventional syringe and needle. Make sure you understand how to adjust the dose if you are changing over from syringe and needle administration of reconstituted Follistim to the Follistim pen. 

You do not need to reconstitute the medicine in the Follistim pen injector device. Simply insert the cartridge, choose the correct dose, and inject. One pen contains multiple doses. It is a single-patient pen and should not be shared with others.

The cartridge is reusable and needs to be replaced when it’s empty. The pen does not need to be replaced. The needle should be disposed of after each use. Use a new needle in the pen for each injection. 

Three audible clicks of the Follistim pen device deliver 25 IU. You can adjust the prescribed dose up to 450 IU in 25-IU increments. The pen injector device has a magnification window that displays the dose increments. After you have taken the prescribed dose, the dosage window reads 0.

Missed dose: If you miss a dose of Follistim AQ, call your healthcare provider for further dosing instructions.

Storage: Store unused Follistim AQ Cartridge in the refrigerator (at 36°F to 46°F or 2°C to 8°C) until the expiration date mentioned on the package. You can also store it at room temperature (at 25°C or 77°F) for up to 3 months or until the expiration date, whichever is earlier. After using the cartridge for the first time, store it at room temperature (36°F to 77°F or 2°C to 25°C) and discard it after 28 days. Store the cartridges in the original carton to protect them from light. Do not freeze this medicine. Never store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused Follistim AQ should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw Follistim AQ in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded Follistim AQ is through a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal.
