Jardiance (empagliflozin) Drug Class

Jardiance (empagliflozin [em pa glih floe zin]) belongs to a group of medications called SGLT2 inhibitors which are oral diabetes medications. It is a prescription oral diabetes medication used to improve glycemic control (lower blood sugar levels) in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Jardiance (empagliflozin) is also used to lower the risk of death from cardiovascular events like stroke and heart attack in people with established cardiovascular disease and diabetes.

Jardiance (empagliflozin) is approved for use in adults. It is not known whether it is safe or effective in children under 18 years of age.
