Lactulose Side Effects

Possible side effects of lactulose are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice about these common side effects if they are severe or continue after a few days.

  • Nausea
  • Gas
  • Diarrhea

Other side effects of lactulose can be more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical attention if you develop the following serious side effects:

  • An unusual or allergic reaction with skin rash, hives, itching
  • Stomach cramps or stomach pain
  • Vomiting

Lactulose Overdose: In case of an overdose, call your doctor immediately. You can also call your local poison control center or the national poison control center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if a person has lost consciousness, collapsed, is not breathing, or has had a seizure.
