- Lovastatin helps to lower blood cholesterol and thereby lower the risk of acute coronary syndromes (heart attack) and stroke.
- You only need to take lovastatin extended release tablets once daily.
- It is available as a generic that is lower in cost than brand names.
- Lovastatin and other statins can cause serious muscle problems and liver damage. You may have to discontinue lovastatin if you develop these adverse effects.
- This medicine is not safe for pregnant women or women who are breast-feeding.
