How To Use Prednisolone Sodium Phosphate
Prednisolone sodium phosphate comes in the form of a tablet, orally disintegrating tablet, oral solution, or oral suspension to take by mouth. Your doctor will give you a precise dosing schedule, and you should follow this carefully.
Read the prescription label and follow the dosing schedule carefully, exactly as your doctor instructs. Do not change the dose, dosing frequency, dosing schedule, or treatment duration without your doctor’s approval.
Taking this medication with food is recommended to avoid gastrointestinal upset.
If you are taking the orally disintegrating tablet (ODT), peel the foil with dry hands, place the tablet on your tongue, allow it to dissolve, and swallow the medicine with saliva or water. Do not cut, crush, or chew the tablet.
Keep all your medical and lab appointments during treatment with this medication. Your healthcare provider will adjust the dose of prednisolone phosphate so that you are taking the lowest dose that can treat your symptoms. They may also need to adjust your dose if you have an infection or illness, are undergoing surgery, or are under mental or physical stress.
Prednisolone sodium phosphate can help to control your symptoms, but it will not cure the underlying condition. Continue taking the medication even if you feel better. Tell your doctor if your symptoms change. Do not stop taking prednisolone sodium phosphate suddenly. If you are on high doses or long-term treatment, your doctor will lower your dose slowly. Stopping this medicine abruptly can result in withdrawal symptoms such as extreme fatigue, weakness, upset stomach, weight loss, slowed movements, skin color changes, and salt cravings.
Missed dose: If you miss a dose of prednisolone sodium phosphate, take it as soon as you remember. But if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.
Storage: Store prednisolone sodium phosphate at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container. Do not store medications in the bathroom where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.
Unused medicine: Unused prednisolone sodium phosphate should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw prednisolone sodium phosphate in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to properly discard expired or unneeded prednisolone sodium phosphate is through a drug take-back program or your local waste disposal company.
