How should I take Provigil (modafinil)?

Take Provigil as directed by your physician and/or pharmacist. This medicine is to be taken orally (by mouth) with water, usually once a day in the morning or 1 hour before shift work. You can take the medication with or without food. 

Follow the directions on your prescription label for the correct Provigil dosage and frequency. Take your medicine at the same time every day. Do not change the time at which you take Provigil without talking to your doctor first. For example, if your shift work does not start at the same time every day, talk to your doctor about when to take the medication. Do not take more Provigil or take it more frequently than prescribed. Provigil may decrease your sleepiness but will not cure your sleep disorder. Keep taking the medication even if your symptoms are well controlled. Do not stop taking Provigil without talking to your doctor first.

Missed dose: If you forget to take a dose of Provigil, take the medicine as soon as you remember. However, if it is too late into your waking hours, Provigil can make it harder to fall asleep. Skip the missed dose and take the next dose at your regular time. Do not take an extra dose to make up for a missed dose.

Storage: Store Provigil tablets between 20° and 25° C or 68° and 77° F (room temperature) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in a tightly closed container (not in the bathroom). Keep all prescription drugs out of reach of children. Provigil tablets are the property of their respective owners and are meant for personal use only. It is illegal to buy or use this medication without a prescription. This medicine is a Schedule IV controlled substance and has the potential for abuse and dependence. Store your Provigil safely so that no one can take your medication accidentally or on purpose. Count your tablets, so you will know if any are missing.
