How To Use Temazepam

Temazepam comes in the form of a capsule to take by mouth before retiring to bed. It can be taken with or without food, as needed for insomnia. This medication will make you sleepy soon after you take it, and the effects will last for 7-8 hours. Do not take temazepam if you have to get out of bed in less than 7-8 hours after taking a dose.

Temazepam can be habit-forming and can lead to physical dependence even when you take it at the prescribed doses. Read the prescription label carefully and follow your doctor’s dosing instructions. Take temazepam exactly as prescribed. Do not change the dose, dosing frequency, or treatment duration without your doctor’s approval.

Your insomnia should improve within 7-10 days of taking temazepam. Tell your doctor if your sleep difficulties do not improve or become worse after taking this medicine. Do not stop taking temazepam suddenly without talking to your doctor. Abruptly stopping this medicine can lead to a withdrawal syndrome, including potentially life-threatening withdrawal symptoms. Your doctor will tell you how to reduce the dose gradually to avoid withdrawal reactions.

Missed dose: Temazepam is usually taken on an as-needed basis. If you are taking it on a schedule and miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and take the next dose according to your regular dosing schedule. Do not take a double dose or extra medicine to make up for a missed dose. Do not take temazepam if you have less than 7-8 hours of sleeping time left.

Storage: Store temazepam at room temperature (between 15-30° C or 59-86° F) away from moisture, heat, and direct light in its original container, tightly closed. Do not store medications in the bathroom, where they can be exposed to moisture and heat. Keep all medications safely out of reach of children and pets.

Unused medicine: Unused or expired temazepam should be disposed of in a way that children, other people, and pets cannot get to them. Do not throw temazepam in the trash or flush it down the toilet. The best way to dispose of expired or unneeded temazepam is through your local waste disposal company or a drug take-back program. Learn more about proper medication disposal
