Uses

Temazepam Uses

Temazepam is used to treat insomnia (difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep) on a short-term basis, typically for 7-10 days. It is not known if temazepam is safe and effective when used for more than 2 weeks.

There may be other uses of temazepam—your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Temazepam Mechanism of Action

Temazepam is a benzodiazepine. It binds to GABA receptors in the central nervous system and slows down brain activity, thus promoting sleep.

Temazepam Doses

Temazepam comes in the form of 7.5 mg, 15 mg, 22.5 mg, and 30 mg capsules. The usual dose is 15 mg before bedtime for 7-10 days. A dose of 7.5 mg may be sufficient for some people, for example, elderly or debilitated patients, while others may need higher doses, such as 22.5 mg or 30 mg before bedtime.
