Valsartan Tips from Pharmacists

  • Keep all your appointments with your healthcare professional while on valsartan. Your doctor may adjust the dosage monthly or more often in the beginning to achieve maximal reduction in blood pressure. Clinically stable patients may not need to visit the doctor so often, however.

  • Valsartan can cause dizziness and lightheadedness due to lower blood pressure. This side effect usually goes away after a few days. Tell your doctor if it persists.

  • Arise slowly from a sitting or lying position. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery until you know how valsartan affects you.

  • Keep a record of your blood pressure numbers at home. Take them with you to your doctor’s visits. Your doctor may increase or decrease your valsartan dose based on your response to the medicine.
