Ziprasidone (Geodon) Tips from Pharmacists
Swallow ziprasidone HCl (Geodon) capsules whole. Do not open or chew the capsules.
Take ziprasidone hydrochloride with food for better absorption of the medicine.
Ziprasidone can help to control your symptoms but will not treat the underlying condition. Continue taking the medicine even if you feel well. Do not suddenly stop treatment without consulting your healthcare provider. Doing so may cause withdrawal symptoms.
If ziprasidone causes drowsiness, try taking the evening dose before bedtime.
Ziprasidone can cause orthostatic hypotension (low blood pressure with changes in position, for example, when going from a lying or sitting position to standing). Get up slowly and rest your feet on the floor for a few minutes before standing up. Tell your doctor if you experience severe dizziness when going from a sitting or lying position to standing.
Ziprasidone can make you dizzy and drowsy and affect your judgment, thinking, and motor skills. Exercise caution when doing hazardous activities such as driving or operating machinery until you know how this medicine affects you.
Ziprasidone can make it harder for your body to regulate the core body temperature. Stay well hydrated in hot weather and avoid strenuous exercise in extreme heat. Seek immediate medical care for signs and symptoms of dehydration such as increased thirst or decreased urine output.
