Zoloft (sertraline) tips from pharmacists

  • Taking Zoloft with food can reduce the risk of side effects such as upset stomach and diarrhea.

  • Do not stop taking Zoloft suddenly, as this can cause unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Talk to your doctor about safely and slowly coming off this prescription drug.

  • This medicine can cause dizziness and drowsiness. Do not drive or do anything that requires full concentration until you know how Zoloft affects you.

  • If you are taking the oral solution of Zoloft, you should dilute it with half a cup of water, orange juice, ginger ale, or lemonade. Taking the solution without diluting it can cause numbness of the tongue and mouth for up to 24 hours that will not go away even if you rinse your mouth.
