What is furosemide (Lasix)?

Furosemide (fyoor oh se mide) is a powerful loop diuretic (water pill or fluid lowering drug) that makes you urinate more than usual.

Who can take furosemide (Lasix)?

Furosemide may be prescribed to adults and children. In children, the furosemide dose is based on body weight. Older adults are given this medication with caution, starting at the lower end of the furosemide dose range.
