Zocor (zoh kuh) is an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor or statin. It is a prescription oral medication that is a cholesterol-lowering agent. Zocor is used to treat high cholesterol and reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, and other problems of the blood vessels.

Who can take Zocor (simvastatin)?
Zocor can be prescribed to adults and adolescent boys and girls who are at least one year post-menarche, 10-17 years of age, with heterozygous familial hypercholesterolemia (HeFH).
