BuzzRx Reaches 4 Million Meals Donated

People filling a box with food.

Today marks an incredible milestone in the BuzzRx journey toward helping make communities healthier. In a time when living costs, especially groceries, are higher than ever and having enough to eat is becoming more difficult for families to ensure, BuzzRx is proud to celebrate 4 million meals donated through our 16 Food Bank partnerships.

According to the USDA, more than 34 million people, including 9 million children, in the United States are food insecure, and 54 million people turned to food programs in 2021. Millions of vulnerable people are one missed paycheck or medical emergency away from facing hunger. According to Feeding America, 1 in 10 people in the U.S. may not know where their next meal will come from, and 1 in 7 children go to bed hungry every night. These harrowing realities are a reminder of how integral Food Banks are to society. They help support working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and children who need sustenance to learn, grow, and thrive. BuzzRx is humbled to help play a small role in fighting hunger across the U.S.

Our program gives back by donating up to $1 every time someone saves using a prescription discount card, benefiting one of our Food Bank partners. To date, BuzzRx has donated nearly $1 million, equaling over 4 million meals. In a study conducted by Food Banks across the country, 66% of their clients reported choosing between paying for food or medical care in the past year, with 31% making that decision every month. Using our card helps put medicine in the cabinets and food on the table for more families in need. This milestone is especially important because we know how essential it is for everyone to access nutritious food and prescription medications regularly to provide a higher quality of health and life.

With SNAP benefits being cut and inflation rising, the community Food Banks are stretched thin and need our collective support more than ever. One of the easiest ways to get involved with a community Food Bank, second to using one of our cards, is to volunteer. Each Food Bank’s volunteer program varies, but a volunteer's tasks may include assembling food boxes, assisting at drive-thru distribution events, delivering meals, or tending the food pantry's community garden. Volunteering is a great way to get involved in your community and give back.

Our 4 million meal milestone would not have been possible without our committed partners. The programs with the most meals donated include Houston Food Bank, Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma, and Food Bank of the Rio Grande Valley. Other participating Food Bank partners include South Texas Food Bank, North Texas Food Bank, Roadrunner Food Bank of New Mexico, Community Food Bank of Eastern Oklahoma, Second Harvest Food Bank, and more. We’re grateful to be aligned with these organizations in their mission to help combat food insecurity and prescription non-compliance, and we look forward to expanding our efforts as we grow together.
