Butalbital is a barbiturate and central nervous system depressant that affects the levels of certain chemicals in the brain. Acetaminophen is an analgesic that blocks the production of certain substances in the body that cause pain and fever. Caffeine blocks adenosine receptors and has an effect on pain signals.

Butalbital Acetaminophen Caffeine Doses

This combination medication is available as tablets and capsules containing 50 mg butalbital, 300-325 mg acetaminophen, and 40 mg caffeine. The liquid form contains 50 mg/325 mg/40 mg per 15 mL (1 tablespoon).
