Chlorhexidine tips from pharmacists

• You should swish and spit one capful of undiluted chlorhexidine twice a day, morning and evening. Do not mix chlorhexidine with water, as this can make the medicine less effective.

• Do not eat immediately, brush your teeth, or rinse your mouth with water or other oral fluids after using chlorhexidine.

• Chlorhexidine can alter taste perception. Use it after meals to prevent changes in taste and decreased taste sensation.

• Contact your dentist if you experience severe or persistent oral irritation while using chlorhexidine.

• Chlorhexidine is not a substitute for brushing and flossing. 

• Keep your all dental appointments while using chlorhexidine. You should go to the dentist every 6 months for dental prophylaxis (routine cleaning and examination).
