Clopidogrel (Plavix) tips from pharmacists

  • Make sure you take your clopidogrel oral tablet at around the same time every day. Missing doses can increase your risk of blood clots, heart attack, or stroke. You can use a pill box or smartphone app to help you remember to take your medicine.

  • While taking clopidogrel, do not take over-the-counter medications, specifically non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen, without talking to your doctor or pharmacist first. Taking concurrent medications that affect bleeding parameters can lead to dangerous and potentially fatal bleeding.

  • Be vigilant for signs of unexpected bruising or active bleeding.
