Cyclobenzaprine Uses

Cyclobenzaprine is a prescription skeletal muscle relaxant that is used, along with rest and physical therapy, and other treatments, to relax tight muscles and provide relief from pain and discomfort caused by muscle injuries like strains and sprains.

There may be other uses of cyclobenzaprine — your healthcare professional or pharmacist can provide medical advice and give you more drug information on cyclobenzaprine.

Cyclobenzaprine Mechanism of Action

Cyclobenzaprine works by slowing activity in the brain to relax tense and painful muscles. This medicine does not act directly on skeletal muscles.

Cyclobenzaprine Doses

Cyclobenzaprine is available in two dosage forms—short-acting tablets (5 mg, 7.5 mg, and 10 mg) and extended-release capsules (15 mg and 30 mg).

The typical dose of the short-acting form of cyclobenzaprine is 5 mg to 10 mg three times a day in adults and children aged 15 years and older. The usual dose of cyclobenzaprine long-acting (extended-release capsules) is 15 mg once a day in adults. Your doctor may increase the dose to 15 mg twice a day or 30 mg once a day if needed. The long-acting form of cyclobenzaprine is not approved for use in children under 18 years of age.
