How should I use Isentress?

Take this drug by mouth. You can take it with or without food. If it upsets your stomach, take it with food. For your therapy to work as well as possible, take each dose exactly as prescribed on the prescription label. Do not skip doses. Skipping doses can make the HIV virus resistant to this and other drugs. Keep taking this therapy unless your health care provider tells you to stop.

When taking whole tablets: Tablets may be chewed or swallowed whole.

When using 25-mg tablets to make a suspension: Place the tablets in a small, clean cup. Add 5 mL of liquid, such as water, juice, or breastmilk, for each tablet. After 2 minutes, crush any remaining pieces of the tablets with a spoon. Take the dose right away after mixing. If any part of dose is left in cup, add another 5 mL of liquid, swirl, and take right away.

Talk to your pediatrician regarding the use of this medicine in children. While this drug may be prescribed for children as young as 4 weeks for selected conditions, precautions do apply.

Overdosage: If you think you have taken too much of Isentress contact a poison control center or emergency room at once. NOTE: Isentress is only for you. Do not share Isentress with others.

What if I miss a dose?

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you can. If it is almost time for your next dose, take only that dose. Do not take double or extra doses.
