Levoxyl tips from pharmacists

  • You should tell your doctor if you experience Levoxyl side effects. It could be that your dose is too high. Your doctor may try you on a lower dose.

  • All the forms of Levoxyl (levothyroxine) are not the same (unlike most medications). Make sure you’re getting the same brand from the same manufacturer when you fill your prescription. If there is a change in brand, talk to your doctor about the need for dose adjustment.

  • Levoxyl replaces the hormone that is normally produced by your thyroid gland. Therefore, you will likely need to take this replacement therapy lifelong (unless you have temporary hypothyroidism due to inflammation of the thyroid gland).

  • Remember that Levoxyl helps to control your symptoms of an underactive thyroid, but it does cure your condition (hypothyroidism). You should continue taking the medication even if you feel well. Do not stop taking Levoxyl without talking to your doctor first. Missed doses can lead to symptoms similar to untreated hypothyroidism, such as fatigue, weight gain, constipation, dry skin, and cold sensitivity.
