Macrobid is used to prevent and treat uncomplicated urinary tract infections. You should know that antibiotics are only used to treat bacterial infections. They will not treat viral infections like colds or flu. Doctors only prescribe antibiotics for a proven or strongly suspected bacterial infection to reduce the incidence of drug-resistant bacteria and maintain the effectiveness of antibiotics.

What are Macrobid (nitrofurantoin) doses?

The usual dose is Macrobid 100 mg by mouth with food every 12 hours (twice a day) for 7 days.
