Meclizine Uses

Meclizine is used to control nausea, vomiting, and dizziness caused by motion sickness. It is also used to treat vertigo due to problems with the vestibular system in the inner ear.

There may be other uses of a meclizine HCl tablet. Your doctor or pharmacist can give you further drug information.

Meclizine Mechanism of Action

A meclizine hydrochloride tablet works by blocking cholinergic receptors. This blocking action gives meclizine its antivertigo and antiemetic properties.

Meclizine Doses

Meclizine is available in two drug forms—oral tablet and chewable tablet. The oral tablet comes in 12.5 mg, 25 mg, and 50 mg dosage strengths. Meclizine chewable tablet comes in a 25 mg dosage strength.

Motion Sickness: The usual dose is 25 mg to 50 mg one hour before travel or activity.

Vertigo: Adult dosage is 25 mg to 100 mg in divided doses. Your doctor can advise you on the appropriate child dosage.
