Metaxalone (Skelaxin) Side Effects

Possible adverse effects of metaxalone are listed below. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects if they are severe or continue after a few days.

  • Dizziness
  • Drowsiness
  • Headache
  • Nervousness
  • Upset stomach

Some of the drug-induced adverse reactions of metaxalone are more serious. Call your doctor right away or seek emergency medical help if you develop the following symptoms:

  • Fast heart rate
  • Elevated body temperature
  • Agitation 
  • Hallucinations
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Loss of muscle control
  • Muscle twitching
  • Unusual tiredness or weakness
  • Upper stomach pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea
  • Yellowing of the skin or eyes
  • Light stools and dark-colored urine
  • Severe skin rash
  • Difficulty breathing
  • Unusual bruising or bleeding
  • Seizures

The above list may not include all the potential side effects of metaxalone. Contact your healthcare provider if the side effects are unusual or severe or they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Metaxalone (Skelaxin) Overdose: In case of an overdose of metaxalone, call your doctor immediately. You can also call the National Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. Call 911 if someone has collapsed, stopped responding, stopped breathing, or had a seizure.
