Scopolamine Side Effects

Possible adverse effects of scopolamine are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.

• Dry mouth
• Drowsiness
• Dizziness
• Disorientation
• Dilated pupils
• Sweating
• Sore throat

Sometimes, scopolamine patch can cause more serious side effects. Stop using scopolamine and call your doctor right away or seek immediate medical attention if you experience:

• Skin rash, hives, itching and other signs of an unusual or allergic reaction
• Eye pain, redness, or vision changes such as blurred vision, double vision, or seeing halos
• Agitation or confusion
• Hallucinations
• Paranoia
• Difficulty speaking
• Seizures
• Urinary retention
• Nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps

The above list may not include all the possible side effects of scopolamine transdermal patch. Tell your health care professional if the side effects are unusual or severe or they do not get better over time. You can also report unusual side effects to the Food and Drug Administration at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Scopolamine Overdose: In case of an overdose, seek immediate medical attention. Contact your doctor, the local poison control center, or the national poison control center on 1-800-222-1222. If a person has trouble breathing, cannot be awakened, or has had a seizure, call 911. Overdose symptoms may include dry skin, dry mouth, fast heartbeat, drowsiness, fatigue, confusion, agitation, hallucinations, vision changes, problems with urination, seizures, or coma.
