Doxepin Tips from Pharmacists

  • It can take 2-4 weeks for doxepin to work. Continue taking the medicine even if you do not notice an improvement in your depression symptoms immediately after starting treatment.

  • Do not stop taking doxepin suddenly. This can lead to uncomfortable withdrawal effects.

  • If you are taking doxepin oral solution, use the provided dropper to measure the dose accurately. Do not use a household spoon from your kitchen.

  • Doxepin can cause drowsiness and dizziness. Be careful while driving, operating machinery, or doing anything that requires your full concentration until you know how it affects you.

  • Call your doctor without delay if you notice any mood or behavior changes while on doxepin. This medicine may cause suicidal thoughts, especially in children, teens, and young adults under the age of 24 years.

  • Doxepin can increase the sensitivity of your skin to sunlight. Wear protective clothing and sunscreen to lower your risk of sunburn.
