Ferrous Sulfate (FEOSOL) Side Effects

Possible side effects of ferrous sulfate are listed below. Call your doctor if these side effects are severe or do not go away in a few days.

  • Constipation
  • Stomach pain
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Staining of the teeth
  • Dark stools

Some of the adverse effects of ferrous sulfate are more serious. Call your doctor without delay or seek emergency medical attention if you develop an allergic reaction with rash, itching, hives, or swelling, or any other unusual symptoms while on iron supplement tablets.

Ferrous sulfate Overdose: In case of an overdose of ferrous sulfate, call your doctor or the national poison control center immediately at 1-800-222-1222. If a person has difficulty breathing, cannot be awakened, or has had a seizure, call 911. An overdose of iron supplement tablets may cause stomach pain, vomiting, and diarrhea.
